CFI funding cuts
With the PM’s decision sinking in, it’s clear there will be some significant funding cuts. Luckily, the Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund has not been touched.
For starters, the axing of the Non-Kyoto Fund was already announced with the Kyoto changes. Now we can add the Biodiversity Fund and Carbon Farming Futures to that.
So from a starting land package of $1.7 billion we are now down to around $70 million for Carbon Farming Skills, Regional NRM Planning and the Indigenous Carbon Farming Fund. Andrew Campbell from Charles Darwin University tells the story here.
Looks like the existing advertised rounds will continue, but there will be no new rounds.
To support revegetation and carbon farming, we will have to innovate. More to follow as we learn more.
