The Core Benefits Verification Framework (the Framework) is embedded within the Queensland Government’s Land Restoration Fund (LRF) as the only third party assurance of First Nations carbon project co-benefits and all projects claiming social and economic outcomes. All carbon farming projects operating within the LRF are registered with the Clean Energy Regulator. The Framework uses a peer to peer strengths-based approach for activities that generate social, economic, and/or First Nations benefits. Nationally accredited training for verifiers is available to create local jobs, building on the experience of rangers, Traditional Owners and farmers.
Verification of co-benefits using an appropriate framework or standard minimises the risk of ‘green washing’. The AbCF Framework has been recognised by the Australian Human Rights Commission as being best practice for its strength based methodology.
To be eligible to receive a payment for LRF co-benefits, projects need to meet specific conditions and assurance and reporting guidelines as defined in the LRF Co-benefits Standard.
Current information regarding relevant LRF carbon farming projects using the Framework to verify co-benefits and enable local employment outcomes are coming soon.
