Australia’s bushfire crisis has led to more discussion about the need to increase Indigenous fire management practices. But in the country’s north, pastoralists and Aboriginal groups have been involved in a prescribed burning program for nearly a decade backed by significant Federal Government incentives. More than 70 projects have been involved in the emissions reduction program to reduce wildfire risk, earning millions of dollars’ worth of carbon credits in the process. But there’s no such scheme in southern parts of Australia,
