Vegetation fact sheets

The Australian Government has released 4 new fact sheets covering the different types of vegetation methodologies. The methodologies themselves can be very large documents and tricky to get a handle on so it’s useful to get some clear information. The main differences in the vegetation methodologies so far are:

  • planting local trees from scratch (environmental plantings, mallee plantings) or planting any non-weed species (reforestation), or encouraging natural seed stocks to regrow (revegetation) – managing natural regrowth is cheaper than planting
  • using an online tool developed by the Australian Government to measure the carbon (environmental plantings, mallee plantings, revegetation) or directly measuring trees in sample plots to calculate carbon (reforestation) – direct measurement is more expensive but likely gives a higher result

Your land situation will determine which methodology is best for you!
